In the darkest part of the Dark Continent, children have hope, in a drug-addict biker turned preacher, who knows how to use the gun, to show them the light! Machine Gun Preacher is not for the faint hearted.

This movie can get to you. If you stay till the last part of the end credits, that is. For therein starts the realisation that what you just saw was real. What you just saw actually happens. What you just cringed from in the comfort of your cinema seat actually is life for thousands of vulnerable humans who only ask for being free from atrocities that are unspeakable.
Based on true events and a real human, Machine Gun Preacher recounts Sam Childers' story. Sam (played by Gerard Butler) is a biker in America. He is into drugs, into petty theft with his close buddy. He is married with a daughter. They live in shabby accommodation and there is nothing much from life that he wants. He arrives fresh out of jail, irritated, wanting to get back into the biking life that he loves filled with hardcore drugs and women. He does not like that his wife has recently found religion and is trying to make him amend his wayward life.
At this moment, high on drugs and roaming the streets with his equally high buddy, they chance upon a hitchhiker who tries to hijack them. Sam gets angry and then stabs the man. With blood on his hands, Sam wakes up the next day very troubled. He listens to his wife and heads of to her church to try and absolve his sins. Something connects during the prayer and Sam decides to change is life. He takes up construction jobs, gives up drugs and biking and after a hurricane hits his town, his business booms. With life going smoothly, in one church prayer, a visiting priest requests aid for the missionaries in strife torn Sudan. Sam decides to go, to help others in need, without a clue of what's happening outside America, forget Sudan.
In Sudan, he learns of the war, the poverty and Christian-Muslim feud that has taken millions of lives. In his curiosity to figure out what's actually going on, he goes into the heart of the struggle to suddenly encounter children who are orphans, struggling to escape the crossfire between both sides. Something inside Sam triggers off a passion that turns into a living testament of one man's struggle to shelter the future.
Sam makes many trips back to Sudan. In his fervour, he starts a new church for those who are ex-drug addicts, bikers and those who find it difficult to attend normal church. With the money he makes and after major bureaucratic struggle, he buys land to set up an orphanage in the middle of the conflict zone in Sudan. Caught between ...
