First Mate - Brilliant Night Vision Technology For The Boater
The first mate allows all boating enthusiasts to navigate with greater safely
and confidence during the night and the day. And as the first mate uses high-quality thermal imaging it provides superior image clarity and granularity than the other systems in use.
This is great news for mariners since it means that we can see more of our surroundings than with any other night vision technology in the world. To summarize, FLIR’s leading image-processing systems present really sharp and really clear thermal video night and day. Obvious benefits include...
1) Being better able to view boats, people, and navigation dangers in complete darkness. The VOx micro bolometer provides exceptional-quality imaging for just a fraction of the price of other similar cameras, hence giving detailed thermal imagery, top performance, and enhanced detection and recognition ranges they need in complete darkness, even through dust, smoke, and fog.
2) Registering heat signatures from various objects that radar will miss such as debris that is floating or bridge abutments in any lighting environment - this is because Flir First Mate thermal cameras see 'heat' NOT 'light', so they see objects that the naked eye will not cannot.
3) The ability to see more / see farther away - than with the other night vision technologies. This is because First Mate thermal cameras see clearly without any light at all, they can see much farther at night than the other technologies that require ambient light to work. They can see heat sources that other night vision cameras could never detect!
4) The first mate is the first fully IPX7, submersible, high-performance, hand held, thermal night vision camera.
The Flir First Mate does not use light intensification technology nor a near Infra Red illuminator like most other night vision device. Thermal imaging permits you to see long wave infrared radiation vs. visible or near visible light waves. What this means is that you can view in complete darkness or even in broad daylight.
I'm happy to report that unlike other devices using older technologies, you won't get blinded by lights or other bright illumination in the background. And, there is no possibility of “burning out” the element. Boat with confidence knowing that you can see hazards, harbor entrances, navigation aids and even a man overboard in total darkness. Flir first Mate can even help man-overboard visibility during daylight since the thermal contrast is usually better than visual contrast. Switch between “White-hot” and “Black-hot” presentation modes.
First Mate Flexibility Of Use
The flir first mate can be used in different modes according to your immediate requirements. So you can most simply hold it and view the displayed image. However the flir first mate has a video output. So you can easily mount the camera on deck facing front and connect the ‘video out’ to a monitor / computer inside the comfort of the cabin.
