Offset Picatinny Rails
The 1 O'Clock and 45 degree offset positions have been popular for some time for laser, flashlight and back-up optic mounting. Mounts have been around a while with the idea that you keep flashlights and lasers out of the field of view of you optical sight. It works particularly well for lamps as it can get them off to the side without interfering with the supporting arm or making the weapon annoyingly wide. Recently, offset mounted back-up optical sights have surged in popularity. An offset mounted red dot offers a near instantaneous back-up or close range option. Obviously the length of Mounting Rail needed for various sights varies and not every offset mounting rail will have sufficient length for every sight on the market.
The Daniel Defense 1 O'clock Picatinny rail, like the others, is precision engineered from 6061 T-6 aluminium and given a matte black Type III anodized coating for abrasion and corrosion resistance. It offers a three slot Picatinny rail that can be used in the 1'O'Clock or 11 O'Clock positions. Three slots is sufficient for most laser and flashlight mounts and for the smallest optical sights, but it is not enough for the Aimpoint T-1 which has mounts that typically take up 2 1/8" of rail space.
The Yankee Hill angled Picatinny rail is another three slot mount offering 1 3/8" of rail space. It differs in being 45 degree and in having a steel clamping rail rather than aluminium and three clampint screws rather than the one large one used by Daniel Defense. The Yankee hill rail also mounts the flashlight or laser closer to the weapon and lacks the see through tunnel used on the Daniel Defense model.
The Double Star offset Picatinny rail is a much longer 5 slot rail which offers exactly the 2 1/8" of rail space used by the Aimpoint T-1 and its popular La Rue LT-660 mount. The Double Star also uses a three screw steel clampin rail set-up. All of these mounts are proudly made in the United States.
