Sales Associate Resume - How A Forgotten 100 Year Old Innovation May Help You Get A Job
Now that so many jobs are being advertised online and offline it's very tempting to simply blast your sales associate resume out and see what happens. This could be called the shotgun approach.
I believe however, that is not the best way to hunt for a job. I think you should take a snipers approach.
In the shotgun approach what tends to happen is you end up applying for anything and everything even remotely related Sales Associate. The problem is you end up losing track of what you sent where.
A Fresh Approach
What you need is a more targeted and focused approach. Below is a technique that you can try for a job you really find interesting.
Most jobs have a contact details on the ad that you used to apply for the job in the first place. After you have prepared your prefect Sales Associate resume there is a trick you can use to significantly distinguish yourself from the pack.
Use a technology that's been around for a 100 years, yes the telephone.
Yes, i' m being completely serious, its truly amazing how powerful the phone is, and yet equally amazing just how much the poor old phone has become so under utilised.
The best way to use the Telephone!
While we all know how to physically use the phone do we know how to use it properly?
Once you have submitted your resume call the contact in the ad with a very simple follow up message. Say something similar to this:Good morning, Karen, my name is Justin and I just wanted to check you have received my resume for job 123, and if you have some time, ask a few quick questions about the role.
The Effectiveness Of The Phone
Making this telephone call does a few VERY powerful things.
Power 1 - Your call actually causes the recruiter or hiring agent to confirm and look for your resume. Talk about getting to the top of the pile fast you've told them to go get your resume and review straight away!
Power 2 - Your call displays how keen you are for the job. The very fact you've followed up tells the recruiter that your interested not just taking the shotgun approach. You're a sniper.
Power 3 - Your call puts you square in the mind of the recruiter. There are going to check your resume probably right then and there! They are going to review what you have to offer and they are going to pursue you further.
Who would have thought a 100 year old technology could do all that!
So follow up your sales associate resume with a phone call, you'll be amazed at what a 100 year old technology can still do.
