Leupold Vendetta Rangefinder by Rick Powers
Leupold Vendetta Rangefinder
Hunting optics maker Leupold has introduced a new rangefinder for bow hunting that mounts right to your bow. The new Vendetta rangefinder actually attaches to your bow's riser and can be used at full draw.
How it Works:
The new Leupold Vendetta is a unique rangefinder. First, unlike traditional rangefinders, you don't look though a LCD screen and sight with a reticle on the display. With this new rangefinder you actually calibrate it with you bow's top sight pins, and aim the device with your top pin, and then the readings are displayed to you on the back of the unit in red LED lights. This unit mounts on your bow's riser and in positioned just above and behind you sight pins so that you can easily see both your sight pins and the displayed distance readings without a lot of movement even at full draw.
Is That Even Legal?
The answer is yes and no. The new Vendetta rangefinder is legal for recreational purposes in all U.S. states; however' it is legal in about half of these states for hunting purposes. So be sure to check out you states bow hunting regulations or visit the Leupold website for a list of legal states.
Specifications:
The new Leupold rangefinder is a pretty compact unit at 3.8" long, 1.3" wide and 2.8" tall, and weighs in right about 10 oz. It has a ranging capability of between 10 and 70 yards. This new Leupold is sighted in with a visible laser contained on the Vendetta that is used only for sight in purposes, as mentioned above, the top sight pin is synchronized with the rangefinder so you actually aim the rangefinder in the field with your sight pin. You activate this rangefinder via a button that is attached to a wire lead that runs from the rangefinder unit down to your bow's grip. This makes it easy to range animals while you are at full draw by pressing the button mounted on your bow's grip and reading the display on the back of the rangefinder. The Vendetta also has a scan feature which gives the hunter updated distance readings as an animal approaches without having to press the button multiple times. Finally, this rangefinder also has Leupold's TBR technology which allows it to display angle compensated readings, which are more accurate than standard readings when the target is at an extreme angle.
Summary:
The Leupold Vendetta has created a whole new category of rangefinder, the bow mounted rangefinder. While a new concept, the benefits of having a rangefinder that can mounted to a bow and used at full draw are obvious. If you are in the market for an archery rangefinder this one is worth looking into.
